For International Women’s Day, we’re showcasing some of the women powering Genesis Biosciences & the female scientists who inspire them in their work.

Our contributions to our industry – and to the community as a whole – are only possible because of our incredible, hard-working team.

With a roster of great talent in our ranks, we’d like to take today (International Women’s Day!) to introduce you to just some of the women powering Genesis Biosciences.

Emma Saunders profile photo for staff profile

Emma is our General Manager, with skills in Biochemistry and Genetics with Physiology. She makes and maintains Genesis UK as an industry-leading organisation.

Emma is powered by a drive to use science to solve problems and make the world a better place. She champions Genesis and helps us commercialise our innovate technology, and played a big role in us winning both the ‘Technology & Innovation Business of the Year’ at the Cardiff Business Awards and the ‘Sustainability Product Innovation’ award at the Edie Sustainability Awards in 2015.

Meet Emma

Who inspires Emma?

Rachel Carson, the American marine biologist and conservationist whose work revolutionised the global environmental movement.

Some of her most famous quotes are very relevant to our work:

“As crude a weapon as the cave man’s club, the chemical barrage has been hurled against the fabric of life — a fabric on the one hand delicate and destructible, on the other miraculously tough and resilient, and capable of striking back in unexpected ways… It is our alarming misfortune that so primitive a science has armed itself with the most modern and terrible weapons, and that in turning them against the insects it has also turned them against the earth.”

1952, Silent Spring

“Among the herbicides are some that are classified as ‘mutagens,’ or agents capable of modifying the genes, the materials of heredity. We are rightly appalled by the genetic effects of radiation; how then, can we be indifferent to the same effect in chemicals that we disseminate widely in our environment?”

1952, Silent Spring

Debbie is our Group Compliance Officer, and she deals with regulatory compliance for both our UK and US facilities.

Debbie is in charge of overseeing our R&D projects and the day-to-day running of our lab – a true operational commander-in-chief. She’s meticulous, and one of our longest-serving team members!

Meet Debbie

Katie Edwards

Katie, one of our talented Research & Development scientists, keeps us innovative by developing and finding new applications for our our products.

With a passion for championing and improving environmentally-responsible products – inspired by years of watching the ‘Really Wild Show’ and David Attenborough documentaries – Katie helps us change people’s perception of how ‘good bacteria’ can keep things clean without harming the planet.

Meet Katie

Natasha, our Quality Assurance Supervisor at Genesis Biosciences, is responsible for the high standards associated with all Genesis’ products developed in the UK and Europe. Having won ‘European Employee of the Quarter’ not once but twice during her time at Genesis, Natasha is a force to be reckoned with.

Meet Natasha

Lauren Freckleton, Laboratory Supervisor at Genesis Biosciences

Lauren is our QC and Laboratory Technician. She plays a key role in day to day operations of the Technical Department, in particular Quality Control analysis of production samples, sample preparation and equipment calibration.

Who inspires Lauren?

Rosalind Franklin. Franklin is best known for her work on the X-ray diffraction images of DNA, particularly while at King’s College, London, which led to the discovery of the DNA double helix for which James Watson, Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1962.

Marie Curie, the Physicist and Chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person and only woman to win twice, and the only person to win a Nobel Prize in two different sciences.

Sophie Price, Commercial Support Assistant at Genesis Biosciences

Sophie is our Commercial Support Assistant. She is an integral part of commercial operations at Genesis Biosciences, in particular sales and customer support, as well as support in marketing and PR functions.

Who inspires Sophie?

Dian Fossey, the American primatologist and conservationist best known for her extensive study of mountain gorilla groups. She studied them daily in the mountain forests of Rwanda, and she actively supported conservation efforts, strongly opposed poaching and tourism in wildlife habitats, and made more people acknowledge sapient gorillas.

Katherine heads up our global Marketing strategy, over at our US facility in Atlanta, Georgia. Kath is detail-orientated, impeccably meticulous, and responsible for ensuring our brand and mission is upheld to the highest standard.

But that’s not all…

Across both sides of the Atlantic, women make our company what it is.

From finance and administration to compliance and new product development, the women in our workforce are pioneers of our industry, leading the way for scientific advancement and global sustainability.

Janice Nielson, Financial Controller at Genesis Biosciences Candace Eisenstein, Staff Accountant at Genesis Biosciences Nadia Meghjani, Microbiology QC Supervisor Ana Kewes - Regulatory Affairs/Safety Specialist at Genesis Biosciences Betsaida Santos, Technical Support Scientist at Genesis Biosciences
