Some people probably wouldn’t know what your role as Technical Support Scientist involves – how would you explain it?
At this moment my job consist of developing a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan for the Fermentation Department. I also have to make sure that all documents for the company are officially issued, as well as assist with technical calls.
What was it about Genesis that made you want to work here?
The fact that it was a new area in the science field back when I joined the team in 2008. During my graduate school years I worked on synthesising new molecules capable of generating free radicals to attack cancer cells. Then I worked as a supervisor and analyst for the Water Quality Department in the Environmental Protection Division. What makes it really fascinating about this job is the fact that we combine chemistry with microbiology to make products that help with the major concerns in the environment, agriculture and aquaculture areas.
What’s one thing that drives you in your work?
The desire of making everything not only better, but the best. I’m driven by the challenges that each new day brings, which help me expand my knowledge. It’s also great to be part of this unique company with its high standards and professional environment.
What’s the best thing about working at Genesis as a Technical Support Scientist?
That we have a great team of hard working people who work together to make Genesis the best company in this field. Not only for the products but also for the knowledge that each employee contributes to our company.
What does your typical day as a Technical Support Scientist include?
On a typical day I am normally issuing official documents for the processes in the company. I help customers with their questions about our products, as well as questions about Quality Control.
What’s the most challenging part of this industry?
The fact that even though we have case studies, every system out in the world is different. This means that we have to carefully evaluate each requirement and use our specialist expertise and knowledge to select the appropriate application-specific product to solve the problem.
What’s your personal philosophy, if you have one?
Always do your best and leave everything in a better condition than you found it. I also believe the best way to do this is by working as a team to achieve today’s industry goal.
What is one thing the general public might not know about your job as Chemist II?
That I am a very qualified person as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) who has also trained in doing hazard analysis and critical control points determination.
What would you say is your / Genesis’ greatest achievement so far?
I have been with the company for ten years and have worked closely with the team, especially our Group Compliance Manager Debbie, to help put new-and-improved procedures in place. Now we not only have great systems and procedures, we are also ISO Certified as a result. Soon we will also be a Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) compliance company.
What’s next for you as a Technical Support Scientist at Genesis?
At this time I don’t know what I am going to be doing, but I am willing to work as my best for Genesis’ interests. I would love to continue to work with management and every employee to ensure that we continue to have control systems that adequately measure and manage the risks in the company. I’m also keen to have a part in research, root cause analysis and trouble shooting.
I will keep pursuing and accomplishing the company goals using my knowledge, creativity as a best scientist in this industry. I really love my career!
